I
first discovered Gigi Levangie Grazer when I read
Maneater
, about a group of high class girlfriends who were looking for equally high class husbands. Though it was immensely shallow, I enjoyed the book, which is why I picked up Grazer's latest,
The Starter Wife
.
T
his story centers around forty-one year old Gracie Pollock, wife of movie producer Kenny in a town where the person to whom you are attached determines your social fate. Too bad Gracie doesn't see that her whole life is about to implode upon her when Kenny announces he wants a divorce. From that point on she becomes what every
first wife
dreads - she has turned into what is known in social circles as '
The Starter Wife
'.

or a while, Gracie spends time in her own little world trying to figure out what went wrong. Then, her best friend decides she needs some time away from her familiar surroundings to get herself together. So, she offers Gracie her house in Malibu for the summer. There, our heroine meets a nice guy (by name Sam Knight) who sweeps her off her feet. But are things turning out to be too good to be true?
I
f you don't mind Gracie's sometimes shallow whining,
The Starter Wife
is a good read and a pleasant pastime.
