Lori Wilde's Mission: Irresistible is a love story set among the Egyptian archeology crowd in Ft. Worth, Texas. Cassie Cooper is helping host a major event at the Kimbell Museum - a fancy masquerade party, with partygoers contributing a thousand dollars a plate. It involves two parts of an ancient amulet and their corresponding mummies, all tied into a legendary ancient curse.

When one of the amulets is stolen, Cassie is blamed, even after she tries to tell everyone that she saw a man, masquerading as a mummy, stabbed in the back. Her chances for a job at the Smithsonian are now ruined, unless she can find the missing amulet and clear her name. Harrison is one of the archaeologists involved in the discovery of this piece of Egyptian archaeological history. His family - especially his mother and his half brother Adam - have lived their lives digging up ancient artifacts. Now, Adam is missing and Harrison wonders what is going on with regards to the missing ring. Harrison defends Cassie's name, and the two of them work together to find the missing amulet piece and discover what happened to Adam.

For some reason I had a hard time buying into the Egyptian myths and magical amulets. The plot was at times very silly. However, Cassie, who is a funny heroine and rather half-witted, helped keep the story interesting. Harrison is a nerdy character, and the two rub each other the wrong way at first. But of course opposites attract and a hidden passion surfaces. The book is well written, and readers who love romances filled with Hollywood-style adventure (I was reminded loosely of The Mummy movie series) will enjoy Mission: Irresistible. It's a good beach read, with a not-very-serious plot line.
