And Kinsey has not diminished one little bit from the breezy, gutsy, compassionate nature that she showed in the first book, A Is for Alibi. When reading this series, one mustn't forget that Kinsey doesn't age. It's 1987. It takes place in Santa Teresa, California. We see the world as it was almost twenty-five years ago. The decade doesn't matter. The action and suspense register no matter the year. This time, Kinsey is commissioned to pick up Reba Lafferty to deliver to her grandfather's home. Reba is to be released from prison where she served a term for embezzlement. Kinsey completes her mission and moves on. However, Reba has different ideas and leads Kinsey a merry chase. I give a large cheer for the romantic life depicted for Kinsey's 87 year-old landlord. The times they are a'changing. There is no dearth of action throughout the book, but the pace picks up to breakneck speed towards the end with breath holding events. Grafton has given us another great read.
