anet Green, an English war (WWII) bride, emigrates to Canada with her baby girl to live the dream she had always had – a home with a loving husband, children, friends and a new family who would make up for what she left behind. That dream turned to nightmare the moment she got a glimpse of her new home. She was to live with her in-laws, and her husband's father was a domineering, abusive man who ruled his household with an iron hand. Janet survived her unhappy life by writing a daily journal.

anet's daughter Rebecca comes home for Janet's funeral, after thirty years away. Soon, Rebecca finds out information about her childhood, that makes her realize it was not as she remembers it. care the Light Away
is a first novel for Vicky Delany, who portrays real life characters in believable situations. The plot was tight and fast paced. Action flew off the pages. The journals written by Janet revealed a knowledge of human nature as did Rebecca's acceptance of her family's foibles. Vicky Delany is an author to watch.
