Michele Martinez's first novel is a sure winner, excitement on every page. She writes of what she knows, having served as a federal prosecutor after working at a prestigious New York law firm. We benefit from her hard work.

The novel opens with a horrendous house invasion and murder scene, picking up from there. Action flows smoothly if not for the best from the characters' perspective. Characters. Ah, yes. There are plenty to choose from, from protagonist City Prosecutor Melanie Vargas to her soon-to-be ex-husband Steve. There's Dan, a Fed; Jed Benson, the murder victim; and Slice, Jed's possible murderer. Those are just the major ones. Lesser characters abound and enrich the story even more. Melanie must not only work this case no matter the hours needed, but must arrange for the care of her baby Maya, decide whether to allow Steve back into her life, or whether to take up with Dave. But is he to be trusted? There's a great deal of treachery behind the scenes and she's not sure what everyone's role is.

Most Wanted is exciting and well written, with loads of legal jargon that makes the book not only good work but a primer for the amateur legal buff. A touch of humor, sexy romance tossed in, and a mystery to solve. What more can a reader ask?
