It opens on everyone anxiously awaiting their college admission letters (with reactions to being on the cusp of new college careers that ring true.) But, guess what? Major disaster. Blair is only wait listed at Yale. This leaves her furious with everyone who was accepted, including her best friend Serena (Nate wisely keeps his Yale status a secret). Flighty Serena, indifferent to her own long list of swains and acceptances, longs for 'that one true love, the kind of love Blair and Nate had.' Naturally, Vanessa makes a docu-drama, capturing everyone's reactions, including those of her boyfriend Daniel - this artsy duo actually move in together for a brief stint, interrupted by a wild party featuring a ferret named Tooter with 'farting issues'. Though there's a rocky start, Serena helps Dan's sister Jennifer launch a modelling career. And Dan discovers yet another true vocation. Despite being totally 'self-absorbed', perenially discontented, and often very silly, as they flitter about their lives, these teen butterflies do sometimes make sensible choices and learn from their mistakes. Deeply resenting her mom's pregnancy, Blair still trails along to childbirth classes with her, a choice that makes a significant impact on her life later, after she rises to a critical occasion. In You're the One That I Want, Blair mellows and earns her happily ever after ... at least until the next episode.
