eth Samuels has a big job ahead of her -- having taken over as sex columnist at her paper, she fully intends to do the best she can. So what if she doesn't have a lot of experience in that department. There are lots of other ways to dig up good research -- like picking the brain of her best friend. But when Sara tells Beth that she can't use any of her own experiences because her new boyfriend thinks it's '
too personal
', Beth knows she's in trouble. Trust Sara to supply the right answer though -- she suggests it's time that Beth '
go pick up a guy. Fresh is better than canned in more than spinach
'.

eth takes her best friend's words to heart. Despite misgivings about not '
being the kind of woman men pick up
' but rather one '
they ask for advice about their girlfriends
', she approaches her research with renewed self confidence. She thinks her first attempt at picking up a man is a bust, not realizing she's caught the eye of a sexy stranger named AJ, who just happens to be in town to re-organize Beth's magazine. Their sizzling night together leads to great sex and a great column. But there are lingering after effects that neither Beth or AJ want to admit since they both know a long distance relationship would never work. Especially once Beth finds out who AJ really is.

awn Atkins writes a fun and hip story in
Very Truly Sexy
, with a pair of likeable leads in Beth and AJ. His reluctance to tell Beth who he really is becomes a bit drawn out, a bit too implausible, but everything works out just fine in the end.
