As a result, Omega Company is saddled with a team of environmental investigators, headed by rabid Chief Inspector Snieff. The star of the team is Barky the Environmental Dog, a bio-engineered canine. Since Captain Jester (Phule's Legion nom de guerre) is always deluged by complications, courtesy of his pitiless authors, the arrival of the environmental investigators comes at a very bad time. Phule has been forced to host some well-moneyed bigwigs who have managed to wangle permission for big-game hunting on Zenobia. Since the planet is a new ally of the Alliance, Phile is also under orders not to offend the planetary government or let the hunters do so. To make matters worse, the hunters are labouring under the false impression that dinosaurs on the scale of Tyrannosaurus Rex exist on Zenobia, since one of the dominant species resemble teeny ones. Yet another complication is the fact that Barky seems to harbour deep antipathy toward the nonhuman members of Omega Company. (Several resemble large cats, and their newest recruit is rather bunny-like.) Back at Lorelei Station, where Phule's very lucrative casino operation is located, his father is creating waves. Phule senior is one of the richest men in the galaxy and unable to believe that his son is competent to run the casino. His attempts to meddle are a distraction that Captain Jester does not need, given everything else on his plate. No Phule Like an Old Phule is an entertaining frolic. In this latest rollicking adventure of the Space Legion's Omega Company, the authors take aim at a number of societal follies, while proving that good guys do not necessarily finish last.
