our young people grew up together in medieval France - the Count of Montargis' daughter Isabelle, his two nephews Aubrey de Montdidier and Richard Macaire, and (lower in rank) Guy DeNarsac. Now one has been brutally murdered, and only the wolfhound Dragon knows who did it. How can a dog, even such a magnificent one as Dragon, make the truth known?
Y
oung page Thierry has been the ward of the Count of Montargis since the latter's friends, his parents, were murdered. He greatly admires Guy DeNarsac, captain of the Montargis men-at-arms. Isabelle is like an older sister to him, and the others are his friends. He's very troubled by events that bring back his own old nightmare, and his loyalties are torn.
J
ulie Andrews Edwards and her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, give us an engaging medieval murder mystery, set in Montargis and in Paris. Details of the period (though they are somewhat sanitized) add to the interest, particularly the acount of an exciting tournament. The characters are delightful, especially Dragon, who wins the day with a little help from Thierry.
