nise Miller can't believe her eyes when she sees the job of Human Resource Manager posted. She had applied for the job six months before, but it was given to a white man with fewer qualifications. Anise marches into her superior's office to apply for the job again, only to be offered a lower level position.

eething, Anise heads home, where she finds her husband whispering sweet nothings on the phone to another woman. She boots him out and wonders how she will pick up her life and move on. As Anise deals with deciding whether a lawsuit is the answer to her work problems, she also has to cope with her soon to be ex dropping in whenever he wants. And she's met a new man who is white, and needs to weigh the pros and cons of an interracial relationship before going for it.

his tale is told from the heart by Kimberla Lawson Roby. She explores the racial and sexual harassment in the workplace, as well as an interracial relationship.
A Taste of Reality
kept my attention, making me curious to see how Anise would deal with the situations that arose for her. While there is no typically sweet happy ending, I admired Anise's strong and positive attitude throughout the story.
