This memoir is subtitled 'An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson'. Morrie Schwartz, professor at Brandeis University, had been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, a terribly debilitating condition that leads to less and less control of the body. Death is the only release from the suffering.

Mitch Albom, a successful sports writer and commentator was once a student of Morrie's. When Albom saw Morrie interviewed on Ted Koppel's program, he traveled to Massachusetts to learn a last lesson from his old mentor. Here is some of what Morrie Schwartz told the author ... 'When you learn how to die, then you learn how to live.' 'Make peace with yourself and then make peace with others.' 'Offer others what you have to give.' 'Find a meaningful life. Devote yourself to loving others. Devote yourself to the community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.'

Remember, these snippets of wisdom come from a dying man. This memoir, written in 1997, will never seem old or stilted, as Mitch Albom has endowed his writing with the sensitivity and caring of a very unusual man. Tuesdays with Morrie - the legacy Morrie Schwartz has left to the world he cared so very much about - will bring smiles to your lips and tears to your eyes. These words from an intelligent and insightful man will stay with you long after the last page is read.
