he Cat Who Brought Down the House
is the twenty-fifth entry in Lilian Jackson Braun's
Cat Who ...
series. The real mystery for me is how Braun has continued to delight us for so long with Qwilleran and his two Siamese felines, Koko and Yum Yum.

raun's tales of Qwilleran and the cats are fresh every time. She constantly introduces new characters with bodacious names. This time, Thelma Thackeray returns to her birthplace, Pickax. Thelma, a retired restaurateur, wants to kick up her heels a bit before retiring for good to the local cemetery. Full of ideas and good intentions, she ends up in trouble. Qwilleran suspects something is wrong, but is unable to help in time. Koko, his investigative cat, is also aware of trickery and tries to connect Qwilleran with the right clues.

hese books are good fun, great escapist reading. Just kick off your shoes, park your troubles someplace inaccessible, and open the mystery. The down home living and the players who people the pages make the reader want to move to Pickax in Moose County ... if only we knew just where that was. I look forward to the twenty-sixth
Cat Who ...
mystery.
