Lindsey Owyang is an American-born Chinese woman living in San Francisco. She feels a bit stuck because at age twenty-five, she lives with her grandmother Pau Pau, and has a low-paying receptionist job with Vegan Warrior magazine. Lindsey is the only non-white employee, and one of a few closet meat-eaters at a place where they occasionally sniff the staff to check for carnivores.

Lindsey offers a tongue-firmly-in-cheek look at her life as an Asian in a mostly white world. She develops a theory about 'Hoarders of All Things Asian', i.e. men who 'trawled the land in search of Asian flesh.' Lindsey knows all the warning signs of men who are after a subservient Asian female. When she meets Michael, another meat-eater at the magazine, she is instantly attracted. But will he fit in with her wild Chinese family? And is Michael a 'Hoarder' in disguise?

This is an entertaining and enlightening chick lit novel. Kim Wong Keltner is Chinese and lives in San Francisco, and it's obvious that much of what she writes comes from real-life experiences. I laughed out loud at many embarrassing and occasionally horrifying situations in which Lindsey finds herself. Although the author pokes fun at the members of Lindsey's family, it is obvious that there is also a deep love and respect. When Pau Pau relates the story of her life, I found myself in tears at the heartache and trials she underwent.

The Dim Sum of All Things is fresh and flows quickly, part romance and part cultural tutorial. Readers will enjoy being immersed in Lindsey's world for a while, and just may learn a little about what it's like to be Chinese in America today.
