But telltale evidence at the crime scene smacks of a set-up that points to something much bigger than a lover's quarrel. Reva is employed at Roarke Enterprises, currently working on a top secret government contract to create a program that would stop hackers dead in their tracks; they have their eye on one group in particular dubbed the Doomsday Group. Eve's husband is none too happy over Reva's arrest -- she's not only an integral part of his research team, she's also the daughter of his good friend and valued personal assistant Caro. Eve knows Roarke isn't about to step back from this case, nor does she expect him to. As she, her crack team, and Roarke sift through the evidence it becomes clear that the murder was indeed staged to steer police away from the truth: a fake computer virus threat and corruption within the government's shadowy Homeland Security division. Robb writes another tight, gripping and enjoyable story in Divided in Death. The procedural details are almost becoming old hat -- like tuning into a favourite weekly TV detective drama. Robb's inclusion of a futuristic version of Homeland Security adds an interesting touch to the proceedings. What continues to keep this series fresh are Robb's characterizations, their interplay and their growth. This time she doles out another crucial bit of information about the missing pieces of Eve's brutal childhood. Since this particular case is as much Roarke's as her own, it's no surprise when he uses his special methods and some very special hardware to finesse government secrets that no ordinary police computer could ever uncover. The information he finds about Eve and her father shocks them both and threatens their relationship: Eve insists on keeping her personal secrets buried while Roarke wants revenge against those who allowed Eve to suffer at the hands of her abusive father and - well, to reveal any more would ruin the plot for other die hard fans who may not have read the lastest installment of this outstanding series.
