When Lady Henrietta finds two young children wandering the streets of London, she takes them home with her. She learns that they are in the charge of their elder brother, Simon Darby, a much sought after rake. When he sees Henrietta with his siblings, Simon is amazed by her ability to handle his unruly sister, whose nursemaids are unable to control her.

Simon is a bachelor, sought after by many young, eager debutantes. Though unimpressed with them, he is captivated by Lady Henrietta Maclellan. However she feels tainted by her lameness, and is sure that she will never be able to marry and have her own children. The doctors and her aunt believe that this same weak hip is what caused her mother's death when Henrietta was born. After meeting Simon, who stirs strong feelings in her, Henrietta composes a provocative letter. It later becomes very public thanks to Simon's engaging Aunt Esme, who wants them to marry.

Though Henrietta is very naïve, Simon is patient with her. Conversations between the pair are entertaining, heartwarming and funny. I also laughed at many of the scenes in which the heroine's aunt tries to explain sex to her. Fool For Love is credibly set in the 19th century, and written with wit. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good romantic read.
