T
his is Kathleen Anne Barrett's second novel featuring ex-attorney turned legal researcher Beth Hartley. When a local CPA is murdered, the man's son begs Hartley to find the murderer. The ensuing search takes the reader on a wonderful tour of Milwaukee, a city the author obviously loves.
T
he mystery abounds with suspects, which at times are hard to keep straight, as the murdered man was a womanizer. But the author has the ability to recap events and characters without confusing the issue or giving a feeling of repetition. The story moves at a good clip and action is packed succinctly into the pages. I found it easy to identify with the character of Beth Hartley. Though I couldn't seem to get a handle on her appearance, I liked her and her manner of moving with purpose and alacrity.
M
ilwaukee Summers Can Be Deadly
is a real page-turner as was the author's first novel,
Milwaukee Autumns Can Be Lethal
. I hope Barrett continues through more seasons in Milwaukee.
