The Answer may be just what you are looking for. 'The New Century Version translates the Scriptures in familiar, everyday words of our times.' Included at the beginning is a two page description of the translation of this version, with discussion of its trustworthiness and its clarity. Sprinkled throughout the Bible are 365 essays on different subjects such as Purpose, Government, and Ambition. The writings focus on one or more Bible verses in the Book in which the essay is located. They are written by authors and Biblical scholars ranging from Max Lucado to Tony Evans to Charles Stanley. These will help the reader to gain more understanding from the text. A handy index of topics and titles at the beginning helps the user locate a reading to address a particular need. Different reading plans are also included. On the back flap of the cover of the softcover edition is a six week reading plan with an overview of the Bible: 'The Life of Jesus Christ', 'The Life of the Early Church', and 'Great Stories of the Old Testament'. I found those readings direct and practical. The actual text of the New Century Version is indeed clear and easy to understand. I highly recommend The Answer, a useful addition to any home.
