Try Walk : Spiritual Insight From Your Favorite Musicians. It features fifty-two devotions, written by over twenty different female Christian musicians, including Rebecca St. James, Stacie Orrico, Jennifer Knapp, Jaci Velasquez, and Nicole C. Mullen. Topics cover a wide range of issues from loneliness, body image, and friendship to jealousy, family, and selfishness. The musicians open up and talk about their true feelings and their reflections on events that have occurred in their lives. Their transparency promotes greater learning and growth for the reader. Each devotion is two pages long, with a short essay about the topic, based on a featured Scripture verse. A 'Think About It' section reflects on the writing and how to apply it to your life. 'So What's Next' questions and Bible verses allow the reader to go deeper. Journaling questions, action plans, and prayers urge you to put the learning into practice. When Walk arrived in my mailbox, my seventeen-year-old daughter quickly claimed it for her own. After working through many of the devotions, she has commented on how they exhort her to become a better person and a more mature Christian. Each devotion is written with teen girls in mind, and avoids sugarcoating their pain and trials with typical Christian platitudes. This encouraging book gently admonishes the reader to put beliefs into action. We did discover one error, in 'Being Lonely,' the Scripture verse reads: Psalm 37:23-28. My daughter was quite puzzled as this Psalm didn't seem to fit the topic. We since found that it should actually be Psalm 73. Not having looked up every single Bible verse in the book, I can't say whether or not this is a one-time mistake. Walk is highly recommended for teen girls who want to further their walk with Christ, with support from mentors who have been there. It will enrich your quiet times with God.
