rom a used car lot transformed by overnight snow to a gate guarding rocks or a view of Mt. Grunge, James Stevenson shows us how to look at the familiar in new and winsome ways. His watercolor illustrations add a sense of nostalgia and text fonts and color enhance the author's free verse messages.
I
n this collection, I especially enjoyed
Surprises
... '
I've been attacked by a rooster, / Kicked by a horse ... You never know / What's on somebody else's mind.
' There's the aloe that '
dreams of becoming an octopus
', the stacked mall, children at the planetarium, dawn in New York city and more whimsical
corn-food
for the mind.
I
t's a remarkable series, well worth collecting.
