It includes delicate evocations of the beauty of springtime. Early Spring speaks of dogwoods blooming, Friendly has 'lilacs bending / low enough to sniff', and Dawn looks forward to a 'grand parade' of 'white clouds marching.' In Banners, 'old dry branches' gather to talk about days gone by, and there's a hankering for the past in Along the Rusty Railroad Track. This varied collection also includes verses on addiction to Peanuts and on the joys of Bare Feet. The author shares birdsong with us and says 'Sometimes I wish I spoke Bird.' And here's Stone Wall, my favorite in Candy Corn: 'A strong stone wall / Is good to see: / All those different rocks / Working together, / Getting along fine.' Keep these books handy to delve into at different times - they have something for every mood.
