The Secrets of the Abbey follows An Island of Suspects as the eleventh in Jean-Luc Bannalec's Brittany mysteries. They feature Commissaire Georges Dupin, who marches very successfully to the beat of his own drum, while sharing with readers the mouthwatering delicacies and breathtaking scenery of this splendid region of France.

This episode opens on autumn in Brittany, with bad news for Second inspector Kadeg. His wealthy, reclusive and eccentric aunt, who lived in a former abbey on the Côte des Légendes, has died, after a series of bad omens. When Kadeg goes there, he's bludgeoned and badly injured. Dupin and colleagues naturally rush to the estate and begin an investigation.

What follows includes a rare bird sighting with commercial implications; another attack, on a gardener this time; a most unusual mining project; and super apples. As always, Dupin follows his nose - and his intuition - to identify the killer. This episode ends on a reunion with Claire that leaves him 'the happiest man in the world'.
