Her Last Breath
is the first Taylor Adams thriller I have raced through, it will not be the last! Its lead is Tess DeWater, a law school student, who suffered general anxiety disorder even before what follows.
D
espite her claustrophobia, Tess has reluctantly agreed to join her best friend Allie Merritt (an influencer) on a caving adventure. Allie's family had taken Tess in after she was abused as a child. They encounter a rather creepy man, Jacob, inside the cave, but ditch him and continue on, GoPros on their helmets recording their exploits.
R
eaders are then taken forward in time, when Detective Washington interviews a traumatized Tess in her hospital room. Reader suspense builds steadily as she recounts what happens when Jacob catches up with them - and attacks. Tess escapes down the cave's Drainpipe, followed by a killer. She manages to make herself unreachable, but also trapped.
A
s Washington talks to Tess, much is revealed and it paints a very different picture than shown so far, that someone other than Jacob masterminded the attack. The story's conclusion is one breathtaking shocker after another - don't miss this one!
