In Dogged Pursuit, David Rosenfelt takes us back to the very beginning when Andy starts his own practice - and meets golden retriever Tara for the first time - in Paterson, New Jersey. After three years as a prosecutor, he's opened his office as a defense attorney. Said change caused a separation from his wife Nicole, who had loftier plans for them. This story opens on a party for employees of Pearson Trucking. It ends badly when the owner's car blows up with three people in it. A disgruntled employee, Ryan Tierney, is the obvious suspect, and is arrested and jailed. As this develops, Andy heads to the shelter to adopt a dog and falls for Tara at first sight. He wanted a dog and 'wound up with an equal.' Since Tara had bonded with another dog, Sunny, Andy wants to take her as well. Of course you can see where this is going. Sunny is Ryan Tierney's dog, which leads to Andy taking on his defense. He hires Laurie Collins as an investigator, so we know they'll work it all out - and of course they do, as she cheerfully joins him on the 'dark side'.
