F
lo is dying. She has made her peace with that, but only if she has enough time to get this letter for Ruthie written. Ruthie is a former next-door neighbor child who grew up having Flo as an ever-present adult in her life, even when she couldn't stand her parents. Flo hopes to help her with a serious adult issue.
T
he letter turns out to be Flo's take on her life through most of its ups and downs. It's a chatty conversation with frequent asides, at times quite amusing and at other times very serious, showing us what it was like in a small suburban U.S. town in the post-WWII period.
F
lo's gentle but spirited and warm personality shines throughout the story, and the pages she leaves behind are just the thing for you if you love hearing your grandparents' stories.
