brings readers another engrossing thriller, filled with shocking twists and turns, in
Shell Games
. It opens on what seems to be a storybook ending, the wedding of glamorous Florida real estate developer and powerhouse Kate Sawyer and her high school sweetheart Charlie Mull. It's held in Kate's '
palazzo built on a narrow strip of land between the gulf and the bay.
'
K
ate's meek and mousy daughter Julie (general counsel of Kate's company) is happily married to Eric Hoffman, Sarasota's top orthopedist. Kate doesn't like him but he and Charlie are close. Eric's gorgeous sister Greta is a judge. The wedding over, Charlie makes a confession to Kate, who calls the police, saying he admitted to carrying out the Tylenol murders! Kate, ever controlling, calls Julie to her side.
C
harlie claims Kate imagined his saying it. Eric sides with him and calls in Greta's husband, a neurologist who examines Kate and says she's hallucinating, consistent with dementia. Julie is torn between supporting her mother, who says she's being gaslit and accepting that Charlie is right. Secrets are revealed and there's a dangerous hurricane - and a death.
C
onspiracy theories abound, but so do conspiracies. Julie's life is upended but she does finally get to the truth and comes into her own.
