Tracy's mystery series starring LAPD Detective Margaret Nolan. Fellow leads are damaged veteran Sam Easton; his close friend, musician Melody Traeger; and Margaret's wealthy colleague Remy Beaudreau. She's in a relationship with him and concerned about her Captain finding out as then one of them would have to leave the Homicide Special Section. This mystery opens on wealthy sex addict Bruce Messane, who has a lucrative deal about to close with Wilder Foods for millions. He's called by psychopathic Mimi, with whom he has a dangerous sexual relationship. Readers suspect this will end badly for him and it does. Maggie is called to the scene of a body in a car - Messane's. There's evidence too that the victim's house was searched but no valuables taken. A day later, Messane's old partner's wife is abducted and used to ensure his compliance with demands. They are old family friends of Sam's, pulling him into the investigation. Sam had just interviewed for a job with SWAT, not to be involved in action but as a consultant. As this evolves, Remy's drug trade informant talks of an 'angel of death'. Turns out she's daughter of 'the most powerful underworld figure' in Europe. As expected, Maggie et al pull all these threads together and find the answers they seek in a series that's always worth reading.
