his episode opens on a horrific killing - Amish Milan Swanz was tied to a post and burned alive. Swanz had led a troubled life, had divorced his wife and been excommunicated. The case comes too close to home when Kate finds a family address in the victim's notebook - did her brother have a beef with Swanz? Readers are shown a vigilante who has his eye on Kate. He attacks her and warns her off, but we know she will proceed anyway.

hough the mayor tells her to take a break, given her family involvement, Kate and Tomasetti continue to investigate. Kate finds cold cases that seem related, leading herself and Tomasetti into extreme danger in a close encounter with a backhoe and with fanatical religious zealots.
