H
ere we go again - another engaging cozy mystery from David Rosenfelt, featuring reluctant lawyer Andy Carpenter and his ever growing circle of friends and associates. He's typically pulled into defending what seems to be a lost cause and it's the same this time.
W
hat's different though is that we learn more about Andy's taciturn investigator Marcus Clark, who has kept Andy alive over the years and now asks him to take the case. Turns out that Marcus has long mentored troubled young men and helped them to turn their lives around.
O
ne of them, Nick Williams, has been named a
person of interest
in a mass shooting at a law firm where he worked, and has disappeared. Nick recently adopted canine Daisy from the Tara Foundation, so readers immediately know that he has to be a good guy.
W
hen Nick finally makes contact with Marcus to turn himself in, he claims to have been abducted, kept prisoner, and finally released. Of course, he's soon charged with mass murder and the game is afoot!
