att Goldman, author of the mystery series starring Minneapolis PI Nils Shapiro, brings readers something different yet compelling in
Still Waters
. His leads are estranged siblings Liv and Gabe Ahlstrom, who grew up in a family-run resort on Leech Lake in North Minnesota. Gabe is a bartender/wannabe rock star with an inferiority complex. Liv is college educated, wealthy, and married.

s the thriller opens, Liv calls Gabe to tell him that their brother Mack (half a generation older) is dead, after a seizure. After they talk, each receives an email from Mack, saying that there have been several attempts on his life. When they meet their sister-in-law for the funeral, she tells them that Mack had a different father than theirs - news to them both.

hey plan a memorial service at Leech Lake, and get much more than they bargained for, as someone from their past will kill to keep old family secrets buried. To get to the truth, they bait a hook with the juiciest of worms, set their trap, and wait to meet their biological father. They finally get answers - and both find ways to leave their damaged childhoods behind them.
