When I'm Dead: Black Harbor #3    by Hannah Morrissey Order:  USA  Can Minotaur, 2023 (2023) Hardcover, e-Book     Reviewed by Hilary Williamson Hannah Morrissey's When I'm Dead is the third in her Black Harbor mystery series starring Medical Examiner Rowan Winthorp in Black Harbor, Wisconsin on the shore of Lake Michigan. Though I missed the first two books, that didn't impair my enjoyment of this episode in the series. It opens on a crime scene, especially hard for Rowan as the strangled corpse is that of her daughter Chloe's best friend Madison Caldwell, whom she'd seen just the day before. She and her husband were both called in as Axel is a homicide detective. They're still staggering from this blow when Chloe goes missing. They find crumpled papers in Chloe's locker implying a relationship with drama teacher Mr. Cutler. The author soon introduces another key character Libby Lucas who can see Chloe's room from her study next door (their moms are best friends). Libby sees a lot from this perch and knows many of Chloe's secrets. Then Chloe becomes a suspect in Madison's murder, creating tension between Rowan and Axel. Is their daughter a killer or another victim? Another girl goes missing before they find answers - with Libby's help. The story ends on a violent confrontation with the killer.
