Iris in the Dark
introduces Iris, single, overprotective mother of seven-year-old Finn. It's soon clear to readers that she has fled from something, and is constantly watching for danger - but what can it be? Iris came to South Dakota pregnant and desperate. Lowell Gordon gave her a job at the
Prairie Daily News
and a place to live.
I
ris is shocked when Lowell mentions his sale of the newspaper, but asks her to run his Windy Acres hunting lodge. She accepts reluctantly but Finn loves it and then there's her new neighbor (also the property's caretaker) Sawyer Jones. She feels safe with him - and something more, until odd, very frightening things start happening. Complicating matters are Sawyer's teen daughter Natalie and his troubled brother Cole.
G
radually, Iris's own dark past is revealed, a past that is haunting her present life and that also changed Sawyer's. She gathers her courage and finds her way into the light.
