Just Another Missing Person
is a most unusual police procedural, set in England. The lead is Detective Chief Inspector Julia Day, a committed, workaholic policewoman, whose dedication has almost cost her her marriage. Julia has also crossed a line, for reasons that elicit reader sympathy - and leave us breathlessly wondering how this will turn out for her.
I
t happened during a missing person's case, that of young Sadie. Julia was distracted by her personal situation and gave it less than her usual attention, something that has haunted her ever since. Sadie's father Lewis realized this and resented Julia for it. He suspected Sadie's boyfriend of her murder. Now another young woman, Olivia, has disappeared. As the investigation begins, Julia is blackmailed - cross another line and do something that sickens her and is against everything she believes in, or her family secret will be revealed.
T
he story moves back and forth in time and between different points of view, sometimes confusingly. Readers root for Julia, while disapproving of her actions. How can this turn out well for her? Yet, after several surprising twists of plot, both disappearances are resolved. You'll have to read for yourself to find out Julia's fate, after someone does
'the wrong thing, but the right thing, once again, once more.
