is the nineteenth in David Housewright's appealing series starring millionaire PI/ex-cop Rushmore McKenzie in the Twin Cities. McKenzie's beloved partner Nina always has his back.
D
espite having promised Nina that he would retire after his last case almost ended him, McKenzie gets pulled in again - this time to help a friend of Nina's. Jenness Crawford's grandmother owned Redding Castle, a resort hotel for over a century. The grandmother just died and Jenness believes she was murdered.
F
amily factions disagree strongly about what the future should hold for the estate. Many want to sell to a developer, while some want to keep it running as a resort. Nina and McKenzie are in the middle of it after they accept Jenness's invitation to stay in one of the estate's log cabins.

hey get to know the family members involved in the dispute. A meeting with the developer is planned before the family vote. The Sons of Europa, who have property on the same lake as the castle, blare their horns. There's a shooting and McKenzie helps local Chief Gardner with the investigation.

he motives? Money, jealousy and vengeance. As always, McKenzie figures it out and it's fun watching him do it.
