is billed as '
Bridgerton meets Gossip Girl with a dash of Jane Austen
'. Though I wouldn't over-emphasize the comparisons, it does have elements of each.
S
everely lacking in parenting skills, bookish and naïve Georgiana Ellers's mother and father have packed her off to her aunt and uncle's country home for the summer. Her relatives are kind but dull and she finds the social events they take her to extremely boring. Then she meets wealthy young Frances Campbell, who shares her disdain for
polite society
.
W
hen her aunt takes her to meet a friend's granddaughter, Betty Walters, who turns out to be plain, plump and rather needy. Georgiana treats her badly as she is pulled more and more into the orbit of Frances and her debauched in-crowd. Georgiana is attracted to one of them, Thomas Hawksley, but he always seems to manage to see her at her worst moments.
T
hough Georgiana does lose her way badly for some time, she eventually manages to find it again, and to see the new world she has moved into clearly and honestly.
