In this SF thriller, resource-intensive technology has been developed to regenerate a human body after death, recovering memories saved at regular intervals. Expeditions sent to colony worlds always include at least one such Expendable to take on all dangerous tasks. Mickey7 is that individual in the Niflheim ice world colony. He has already died six times, in a variety of very unpleasant ways. But the seventh time he's believed to have died, he survives and makes his way back to find that Mickey8 has been cloned. If it's realized they are loathed duplicates, they'll both be recycled. What can they do? While they manage to avoid being in the same place at the same time for a while (sharing their already sparse food allocation), it's clearly not going to last and it certainly complicates life with their girlfriend. Meanwhile, hostility from the planet's own species (one of them intelligent) is increasing, putting the colony at risk. Can Mickey7 save himself and save the day, without dying again? I really enjoyed and recommend Mickey7, which is apparently to be adapted into a major motion picture starring Robert Pattinson. Can't wait!
