Shadow Target: Jake Keller #4    by David Ricciardi Order:  USA  Can Berkley, 2021 (2021) Hardcover, e-Book      Reviewed by Hilary Williamson Though I have not read the earlier three books in David Ricciardi's thriller series starring CIA Agent Jake Keller, that in no way prevented my enjoying Shadow Target. A member of the CIA's elite Special Activities Center, Jake is on leave when the story begins. It starts as it continues, with high octane action and close calls for Jake. His plane goes down in the Alps, Jake the only survivor. Soon afterwards, a helicopter drops off two thugs, searching the wreckage. Jake manages to stay hidden till rescuers arrive, but a head injury leaves him with little recall of events after the crash. Gradually though, he sees a pattern of carefully disguised assassinations of CIA field officers. Jake has trouble convincing anyone else that this is happening, while attacks on him continue, attacks that seem to be based on inside information about his movements. He needs allies outside the Agency. Jake reconnects with French intelligence agent Geneviève, the woman he still loves, but who believed him dead. He finds allies in British intelligence and his old boss, Peter Clements comes to his aid (unofficially). Together, this coalition manages to stop an attack that would have de-stabilized world powers.
