Perin Willoughby is an awkward teenager on a summer course in England. She is becoming very bored with Shakespeare, and particularly with a classmate who is fixated on the idea that someone else wrote Shakespeare's plays. Unfortunately, Perin gets lost on her way to visit the Globe Theatre, and suddenly falls back through time to the sixteenth century. Luckily, she falls unto another, male, teenager, who actually is a player at the Globe, acting women's parts of course. Perin is taken for a boy, and eventually becomes a successful player at the Globe herself, and a roommate of Shakespeare's.

She discovers who really wrote the plays, invents fast food such as chips in a twist and pyksters, and manages to survive the horrors of sixteenth century London until she is brought back to her own time, with only a few small differences. Perin is a feisty, fast talking heroine, the people of Shakespeare's time are well depicted, and the author does her best to portray the real sights, sounds and smells of London as it was. A Question of Will is a time travel story which should entertain as well as enlighten teenagers and adults alike.
