Paw of the Jungle
as the ninth in Diane Kelly's cozy procedural series set in Fort Worth, Texas. It features young police officer Megan Luz and her beloved K-9 partner, Brigit. Megan's boyfriend Seth works for the Fort Worth fire department.
A
s this episode opens, Seth proposes, Megan accepts, and they start planning their wedding. So events alternate between police procedural developments in what appears to be a murder investigation, and Megan's search for the right dress, venue, and so on.
M
egan still does her regular patrols with Brigit as a K-9 officer, but is occasionally pulled into investigative work that needs the canine's skills - and benefits from Megan's insights. This time, it begins with a bloodbath at the home of Shelby and Greg Olsen, a couple who seem to live only for each other.
G
reg, an assistant manager at a movie theatre, is missing - and feared dead, given the quantity of blood at the scene. Detective Jackson, who has become Megan's mentor, continues to involve the K-9 team in the investigation, as they pursue various red herrings.
T
hough I have to say that I figured out
whodunit
early in the story, I still enjoyed spending time with these characters - and sharing Brigit's dog's eye (and nose) view of the world.
Paw Enforcement
is a delightful cozy series.
