He's separated from his wife Yukiko, works as a bartender, and attends therapy sessions. When friend and fellow employee Melody Traeger is beaten by her boyfriend Ryan, Sam takes her in. When Ryan is murdered, they both come under suspicion. Nolan and her partner catch the case.

efore that happens, the author shares a serial killer's perspective and this continues through the book, as women are found mutilated and killed. But there's much more to this story. Roses are being left in Mel's apartment - who had access and who knows about her past? A very wealthy young wannabe director is obsessed with Sam and Mel - why? There are the dark memories that Sam lost overseas - can he recover them?
