They soon learn that Lila found (and watched) Aaron's intimate videos of female students. Fast forward six weeks and Aaron is missing. His best friend, high school principal Brent, is very concerned. As they talk, it becomes clear that Lila knows something about what has happened - was she involved? Brent quickly calls the police as does Lila's neighbor Cassie, 'a one-woman neighborhood watch'. Sheriff's Office C.I.D. investigator Ginny Davis starts asking questions and learns that Lila was involved with a client, Ryan Horita. Lila, previously a lawyer, now works as a real estate agent. She starts to receive taunting notes and wonders if they're from Aaron. As the plot progresses, readers learn more of Lila's dark back story. She involves her good friend, Tobias, her former law partner. She wonders more and more about the fate of several young women who have gone missing in the area. Aaron's brother Jared shows up and muddies the waters. Darby Kane ties up this unusual and intricate mystery in a stunning knot of a conclusion, one that I did not expect.
