Lucy is happily married to ethical hacker Sean Rogan. They live with their dog Bandit and with Sean's son Jesse, whose mother Madison died in a previous episode. Past enemies come back to haunt Lucy and everyone close to her this time. Lucy and Sean were heavily involved in action against an organized crime syndicate headed by Tobias Hunt. The latter's psychopathic daughter Elise ended up in juvenile detention, but managed to convince authorities that she was a victim rather than a central figure. As this episode opens, Elise has just been released and is putting her father's plans in action. Sean is framed for murder, while others in Lucy's circle are attacked in various ways. Lucy is frantic about Sean's safety, especially when a prison break is orchestrated and a cop killed, with evidence pointing to Sean. As matters escalate, it becomes clear that old enemies (including some who once were friends) are involved in a convoluted plan that centers on Lucy herself. As expected, Allison Brennan delivers yet another fast paced, gripping, and addictive read in Cold as Ice.
