The lead is star pastry chef/amateur sleuth Kate McGuire in Coral Cay, Florida. She has a lot to deal with this time. Evan, the cheating fiancé she left in Manhattan, has followed her to Coral Cay and she wants no part of him. Tourists are flooding the town for a pirate festival, for which she's created a cookie-of-the-day challenge. If all that were not more than enough, she and her best friend Maxi unearth a skeleton in the backyard of Maxi's floral shop! Maxi immediately assumes it's the corpse of Gentleman George Bly, pirate king of Coral Cay. Is it really him, one of his crew, or a more recent victim? Is Maxi's back garden an archaeological site or a crime scene? You'll just have to read Sugar and Vice to find out - it's worth your time, both for the cozy mystery and for descriptions of cookies-of-the-day to make you salivate!
