Kidnapped on Safari is the third in Peter Riva's Mbuno & Pero series set in Africa. I would recommend reading the first two books before this one, to become familiar with the characters and back story.

Pero Baltaza is a wildlife television producer, who has assisted the CIA in past episodes. He works with his wife Susanna and various associates, including his best friend Heep, and his trusted safari guide and devoted friend Mbuno, 'an elder statesman of the Liangulu tribe.' As Kidnapped on Safari begins, they are filming on Lake Rudolf in Northwestern Kenya.

Then comes an emergency call by shortwave radio. Mbuno's son Ube, also an expert guide, has gone missing while on a safari away in Tanzania. He had apparently sensed danger and sent his clients to safety, while acting as a decoy himself. Pero immediately takes charge and arranges to fly to Nairobi and interview those clients.

One of them, Bob Hines, a former Marine corpsman, volunteers to accompany them back to where it happened. Turns out he also works for the Treasury Department, tracing illegal funds derived from drug trafficking. They plan a rescue, using their US sources for intel. This takes them to a property owned by Zanzi-Agroforestry, with some ex-Nazis running the show.

A herd of elephants gives them cover as they sneak into the compound and rescue Mbuno, but they see Boko Haram there and something else that leaves them determined to return, after serious planning and logistics are in place. It's quite a production, even for Pero, but they do pull it off, with relatively minor casualties.

Kidnapped on Safari Safari is a thrilling read in an exotic locale, with the extra of in depth description of filming of wildlife. I recommend this series to you.
