I
took my time but I've finally discovered the Detective Cormoran Strike mystery series by Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling):
The Cuckoo's Calling
,
The Silkworm
,
Career of Evil
, and
Lethal White
. They're as good as we all expect from Rowling, despite the switch in genre, with intriguing characters, unusual and well developed plots, regular conflict with law enforcement, difficult relationships, and hints of new romance.
C
ormoran Strike, son of a famous rock star and a super-groupie, lost his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan. He struggles to make a living as a PI, despite the notoriety that seems to accompany each case. He hired lovely, and extremely competent, Robin Ellacott in the first episode and has had few regrets. Despite continuing objections from her fiance, Matthew, she has honed her detecting skills and is now a full partner in the business.

Lethal White
, Robin and Matthew are married, though not happily. Strike is disturbed by a visit from a man named Billy, who claims to have witnessed a horrific crime as a child. Billy has mental health issues, but Strike believes there is something to his story and (literally) digs into it. Strike is hired by the UK Minister of Culture, Jasper Chiswell to find out who's behind threats to expose something damaging to his career. Robin goes undercover in the House of Commons to investigate.
R
obin and Strike gradually find the links between these overlapping cases, but not before violence erupts. Meanwhile, Robin's marriage breakdown and the simmering feelings between Robin and Strike are coming to a head. This is a series I plan to follow closely, and I recommend it highly to you.
