T
he Murder of My Aunt
by Richard Hull was first published in 1934 in the British Library Crime Classics, and came to N. America in collaboration between the British Library and Poisoned Pen Press. This mystery is a little different in that there isn't a real mystery involved.
E
dward Powell lives with his Aunt Mildred in the remote Welsh town of Llwll. While Mildred thinks the countryside is the only place to live, Edward simply despises the rural life. If Mildred should die before him he will inherit the country estate and all the family money along with it. What to do? He decides to murder his aunt!
E
dward's machinations to murder Mildred are unsatisfactory. Aside from that, he doesn't give his aunt her due. She is not an uneducated country woman who could never conceive of his plans.
The Murder of My Aunt
is a delightful romp through the British landscape. Readers will enjoy a few laughs along with a very clever plot.
