B
oston Sergeant Detective D.D. Warren and vigilante Flora Dane (a survivor brutalized by a serial killer, who now advocates for other women and acts as D.D.'s
confidential informant
) are back in Lisa Gardner's
Never Tell
, tenth in this series.
I
t starts with the discovery of a man shot dead in his home office. It seems a slam dunk that his pregnant wife killed Conrad - Evie is found standing over the body after repeatedly shooting his computer. Warren recognizes Evie from a previous case when, as a child, she accidentally shot her own father - was that a murder too?
O
n the other hand, Flora Dane, recognizes Conrad as a man who might have been trying to help her when she was a captive. Was he really a predator or something else entirely? Matters get more complicated when Evie's house (now a crime scene) is set on fire.
F
lora's life opens in a new direction after she meets Keith Edgar, a nerdy computer analyst who's fascinated by true crime and serial killers. His older cousin was victimized by one when he was young. Though attracted by Keith (a first since her own abduction) Flora wonders if he's for real.
Q
uestions constantly arise (in readers' as well as cops' minds), but this onion of a mystery is gradually unpeeled to a most surprising conclusion. Don't miss
Never Tell
.
