Sarah Booth's romantic relationship with handsome sheriff Coleman Peters is simmering nicely. She's looking forward to mistletoe encounters, followed by joyful Christmas nights with him. So she's disturbed when her friend, journalist Cece, asks her to keep a secret from Coleman. Cece has received a ransom note, telling her that her very pregnant cousin Eve will be returned safely for the rather odd sum of $130,000. Of course, Sarah Booth and BFF Tinkie start digging into Cece's highly dysfunctional family background, driven by their anxiety for the health and safety of this modern Mary and her baby. They follow the old law-enforcement saying 'Chew the bone you've got', which takes them where they need to go, but with all kinds of surprises along the way. As always, the mystery is enlivened by the antics of ghost Jitty, this time bringing The Nutcracker to life at every opportunity. It's always fun spending time with Sarah Booth and her ever expanding circle of friends.
