Dragonsworn: A Dark-Hunter Novel    by Sherrilyn Kenyon Order:  USA  Can St. Martin's, 2018 (2018) Hardcover, Paperback, CD, e-Book     Reviewed by Hilary Williamson The Dark-Hunter series is not an easy one to drop into, as there are constant references to what seems to be an ever expanding cast of characters (and there have been twenty previous episodes!) Nevertheless, I enjoyed Dragonsworn as an escapist read. The two protagonists are both bad guys, though rather honorable ones. Medea, granddaughter of the Greek god Apollo, shifted to the dark side after her husband and child were slaughtered by humans, whom dragon Falcyn hates too. He also hates his own brother Maxis, who took his son Maddor (by Adoni sorceress Igraine) from him. Since then, Maddor has lived (and been mistreated) in his mother's fey realm and knows nothing good of his father. Medea needs a dragonstone, which the fey also demand in exchange for Falcyn's son Maddor. Medea and Falcyn end up on a quest together, along with Medea's brother Urian and Falcyn's grandson Blaise. They gather additional companions along the way, fight demons - and fall hard for each other. Medea sees Falcyn clearly as 'A survivor in the purest sense of the word.' Which is, aside from the love affair, what this story is all about - surviving a series of magical adventures and adversaries. This extensive cast of characters will have to continue to do that in future episodes as Apollo continues to play his long game.
