The Ruinous Sweep
, author Tim Wynne-Jones takes readers back and forth (sometimes confusingly) in time - and into the realm between life and death - to discover what led to the accident that leaves teen athlete Donovan Turner in a coma in hospital, after being hit by a car. Was it an accident, suicide or attempted murder?
D
ono had gone to visit his drunken father and to tell him that he would do so no longer. Now his father is dead and the police suspect that his son did the deed - there is strong evidence that points to him. But Dono's girlfriend Bee doesn't believe it. Though he has had anger management problems, she knows he's incapable of murder - and is determined to prove it.
B
ee is a strong heroine and she certainly needs to be, in dealing with police pressure to share her journal entries about Turn, and in tracking down the real killer. She persists through a harrowing nightmare of violence and close shaves. Readers will be on Bee's side all the way, and appreciate the closure at the ending.
