exter Vega is a newspaper reporter – when he is working, that is. At the moment he is unemployed and feeling the pinch. He is hired to investigate the drowning death of Liam, the son of a very wealthy real estate magnate located in Siesta Key, Florida.

ega is told that Liam was very proficient in the water, especially in the four feet of water in which he drowned. The bay water that took Liam's life is never rough or dangerous. A roommate of Liam's is found in the bay with a cement building block tied to a foot. Why?
Liam and his father have never gotten along, but when Liam asked his Dad for money – large sums – his father would write him a check!
T
he residents of Siesta Key are working hard to prevent a large apartment complex from being built. It would destroy the view of the water for many residents, and damage the family feeling of the community.

ega isn't sure just what he is doing, but whatever pays the bills works for him. His interest in the deaths is noticed by someone who seems to want Vega dead also. Though the police are unable to identify the bad guys, Vega works the suspects down to two. One disappears and he finds himself falling in love with the other. So much is involved, making the whole investigation a swirling mix of greed, beachfront property, and drugs.
